About Me
Interest in art began at an early age with a box of red crayons. No subject was excluded, especially horses. That love blossomed into a passion to pursue artistic endeavors.
A native of Queens, New York, Monica Cox has considered North Carolina home for over 30 years. She lives with her husband, Terry, and, more than likely, a very spoiled cat.
A graduate of the School of Visual Arts in the lower East side of Manhattan, Monica found her niche. Works in colored pencil expanded to include other media, and portraits in oil dominate her portfolio. Her ability to capture the character and essence of her subjects is a God-given gift, and she loves studying faces to glean helpful insight. Her efforts grace a hospital in Colorado, a home in Ireland, and many dwellings in between.
Animal subjects are a joy as well, and numerous happy pet owners display her works in their homes.
Working primarily from commissions, the artist welcomes the privilege to celebrate your loved one’s life on canvas.
How I Work
Monica works from photos personally taken during her meetings with prospective clients. If the subject of the portrait is unavailable (lives at a distance, is deceased, etc.) the artist will use her discretion in choosing suitable photos supplied by the client.
Once the client reviews the photographs and, along with the artist, chooses the most suitable, work begins. When the portrait nears completion, a final meeting is scheduled to make any small adjustments and to arrange for delivery.
Sizes range from 16x20 to 20x24 for Head and Shoulder Figure; 24x30 to 30x40 for Three-Quarter Figure; and 30x40 to 36x48 for Full Figure. Other sizes may be discussed per individual needs.
Prices are for one subject with a simple background. Multiple figures (including pets) or complex backgrounds will incur additional cost. Please use the contact form to comment or inquire about current pricing.
